through a Macrofying Glass

The goal of Economics through a Macrofying Glass is to complete the education received in college, to encourage performance and high potential, to create the premises for an open dialogue, through which participants can enrich their knowledge in the macroeconomic area, on the one hand, and facilitate student-possible employer interaction, on the other.


Economics through a Macrofying Glass 2009

Econosofia is pleased to announce the 6th edition of Economics through a Macrofying Glass, which will take place between the 4th and the 8th of May 2009. Our project is part of a series of annual academic events on macroeconomics, financial markets and public policy. Out target group consists of bachelor students with a strong focus on macroeconomics and public policy. During the seminars the selected participants will have the opportunity to interact with prominent economists from private companies and from institutions such as the World Bank, IMF and the National Bank of Romania.

Our main guest is Lajos Bokros, professor at the Central European University and Chief economic adviser to the Prime Minister of Croatia. Prof. Bokros has a vast experience in the fields of macroeconomics and public finance, which he gained as Director at The World Bank, Economic adviser to the DPM of Poland, Minister of finance in Hungary, Chairman and CEO at Budapest Bank, Chairman and CEO at Budapest Stock Exchange. Economics through a Macrofying Glass 2008

Economics through a Macrofying Glass 2008, brought together, for the forth year in a row, 40 elite students passionate about macroeconomics and institutional policies. Our traditional guest, Prof. Lajos Bokros, PhD at the Central European University, shared some of the knowledge he accumulated through years of experience as Director of the World Bank, Minister of Finance in Hungary and President of the Budapest Stock Exchange.

The project took place between the 5th and the 14th of May 2008. During the first part of each day Prof. Bokros delivered the seminars, while in the afternoon the participants received the visit of great personalities, such as:

Changing Currency - Redefining Economics 2007

Changing Currecy - Redefining Economics 2007 took place between the 2th and the 11th of May and consisted of 8 days of seminars with our special guest, prof. Lajos Bokros, and offered students the opportunity to study several issues concerning real and nominal convergence to the Euro Area. The expertise of prof. Bokros fostered the comprehension and understanding of problems that East European countries face in joining the Euro zone and helped students acknowledge the possible solutions to those problems.

Economics through a Macrofying Glass 2006

The main objective of EMG 2006 was to select the best 40 students with great potential to become future professionals and to provide them with the opportunity to understand some key economic issues.

The seminars were held between the 23th and the 31th of May and benefited from the exclusive presence of Prof. Lajos Bokros, who offered the students the chance to learn from a true specialist. Some of the topics discussed were: communist period influence on Romanian economy, economic transition, the post -communist privatisation process and other fiscal policies.

Also, the students had the opportunity to interact with distinguished personalities from various fields:

At the end of the project, we organised an essay contest on Monopoly versus Oligopoly, in partnership with our exclusive sponsor - Lafarge Romania. The winner of this contest received a study trip to Paris at the headquarters of Lafarge Corporation.


Dealing with a Functional Market Economy. Romania's case 2005

This was a 5-day seminars session recommended for undergraduate and graduate students on the challenges that a functional market economy faces. The subjects discussed were: the flow of funds in an open economy, links between the fiscal policies and the current account, options of macroeconomic policies in a transition economy, restructuring and privatization of public enterprises, financial sector modernization, links between the financial sector and the restructuring of an economy.

The project took place between the 9th and the 13th of May and was honored by the presence of some special guests:


The series of conferences on the Structural Reforms in Romania 2002

While the conferences explained the stages and implications of the structural reform in Romania, the spontaneous yet fervent debates arisen allowed the 40 bright participants to assert their opinion and to advance different views over the topics considered.

Some of the matters discussed between the 25th and the 30th of November were: structural reforms in Central and Eastern Europe, institutional reforms, agreements with the international financial organizations, privatization of large state-owned enterprises, arrears in Romanian economy, financial discipline, the role of small and medium enterprises in the Romanian economy, Romanian business environment and investment opportunities.
