through a Macrofying Glass

1-14 August 2011, Bucharest

Economics through a Macrofying Glass  sounds like a school, but it is the SUMMER school designed for exceptional people who have an eccentric passion nowadays: macroeconomics and public policies. This year’s theme is Modern methods of economic growth. The main issue tackled is why The economy is out of sync and still sinking. What changes does the global financial crisis make in our society. What is its impact on the world economy? What about the newly developed role of the BRICS in the future of the world economy? What are the issues of the EU and the Eurozone? Are there vivid rescue mechanisms?

This summer 25 students will start the journey of developing their economic reasoning with the seminars taught by Mr. Lajos Bokros, the former Director of the World Bank and CEU professor.  To this recipe we add conferences or lectures of prominent economists from the public sector (IMF, NBR) as well as the private one (bankers, consultants, economists). At the end of the summer school the students will have to deliver a collective working paper in which they’ll sum up the things learned throughout the project, the research they will have conducted  in the 14 days of summer school and their previous knowledge on the topic. Prizes will be given to  the most active participants, in recognition of their constant involvement in talks, intriguing questions and overall inquisitive nature.

Our main guest is Lajos Bokros, professor at the Central European University and Chief economic adviser to the Prime Minister of Croatia. Prof. Bokros has a vast experience in the fields of macroeconomics and public finance, which he gained as Director at The World Bank, Economic adviser to the DPM of Poland, Minister of finance in Hungary, Chairman and CEO at Budapest Bank, Chairman and CEO at Budapest Stock Exchange.

Goals

• to complement the education received in college,
• to encourage and reward performance,
• ti improve the quality of economic reasoning,
• to strengthen links between students and their potential employers,
• to create a network of high potential students,
• to ensure the continuous development of generations of students in the macroeconomic field,
• to become a blueprint for the passionates of macroeconomics in the academic environment.

Target Group

The selection process consists of an application form and interview.

The applicant's profile:

• bachelor/master student with a strong focus on macroeconomics and public policy,
• good knowledge of English language,
• communicative and responsible.
